The Northern Route
Our basic 10-day journey is perfect for solo travelers, as well as small groups of family/friends. Our trip is limited to 8 people and takes you to Lisbon, Sintra, Obidos, Averio, Porto and the Douro Valley. Your guide and driver will unlock the wonders of both the cities and magnificent countryside.
Sample Itinerary:
DAY 1: Arrive Lisbon and explore the city
Arrive in Lisbon, where you are met and transferred to your hotel. We spend our first day in fascinating Lisbon visiting elegant avenues and quaint calles (side streets).
DAY 2: Sintra
After breakfast we hit the road and drive along one of Portugal’s most beautiful scenic roads to Europe’s western-most tip and on to the enchanting Sintra, where we will explore and have a delicious lunch.
Afterwards we will head back to Lisbon for a lovely dinner and evening full of Fado music.
DAY 3: Obidios
We depart Lisbon and tour the historic town of Obidos. Along the way we visit Mafra to see the palace and wander through the botanical gardens. Once we arrive in Obidos, we explore the medieval city walls and cobblestone streets. After checking into our hotel, we enjoy a cooking class and enjoy the fruits of our labor during a fabulous dinner.
DAY 4: Aveiro
We take a scenic drive along the Atlantic seaside making various stops along the way to visit lovely coastal towns until we reach the canalled towns of Aveiro – famous for its salt and porcelain. We spend the night in a modern hotel and enjoy the nightlife and local seafood.
DAYS 5-6: Porto
We head to beaches and multicolored houses of Costa Nova and Iihavo. After lunch we continue our journey to Porto, where we spend the next two nights in a luxury hotel. Here we see the sites, take a cooking class and maybe even attend a concert.
DAY 7: Duoro River Valley
After breakfast, we take a boat trip along the Duoro River- a highlight not to miss. After disembarking we drive to the wine region known for producing port. After tasting the delicious ports for which the region is famous, we drive to Coimbra for the night.
DAY 8: Coimbra
The day is spent exploring Coimbra, home of the most famous university in Portugal and the inspiration for JK Rowling’s famous Harry Potter books. That evening we head back to Lisbon.
DAY 9: Lisbon
Explore more of the city, shop, visit museums and stroll through the park. Join us this last evening for a performance of Fado.
DAY 10: Adios
We will depart early in the morning to fly home or continue on this amazing journey to explore the Southern region of Portugal.
The cost for this wonderful ten day holiday depends on the number of travelers:
2 to 4 travelers: $5600/person, double occupancy
5 to 6 travelers: $4600/person, double occupancy
7 to 8 travelers: $3900/person, double occupancy
Solo traveler fee: $600
Optional Trip Extension:
We are thrilled to offer you the option of also exploring Southern Portugal. It may be a small country, but there is so much to do and see we can’t fit it all into one excursion. Both regions are wonderful and for those who have the time, we can combine our two trips into a special 15-day once in a lifetime experience. Please contact us regarding the cost of this trip extension.
