The Blues of Guatemala

The breath-taking blues of the sky, mountains, and water of Lake Atitlan in Guatemala serve as inspiration for some of the blues used in the native dress of the inhabitants of several of the towns that nestle along the shores of the lake.  The women weave their own clothing from locally grown cotton, often died with natural plants like indigo that produce anil which creates the heavenly blue hues seen in the fabric of the dresses in this picture.
